GUJRAT & RAJASTHAN

2024

Our study tour took us to Gujarat and Rajasthan, where we sketched architectural masterpieces, including royal palaces, forts, and archaeological sites. We focused on capturing the intricate details of these historic monuments, gaining a deeper understanding of their design and cultural significance. This tour was a unique opportunity to explore and document the grandeur of India’s architectural heritage through art.

BHUTAN

2024

Bhutan is country in the Himalayas between the Tibet Autonomous Region of China and India which has a rich and unique cultural heritage.One of the first things you notice about Bhutan is its distinctive architecture. The solid, rammed-earth farmhouses, the cliff-hugging goembas (monasteries) and lhakhangs (temples), and the impressive dzongs (fort-monasteries) follow a traditional pattern.

SPITI VALLEY 

2019

Spiti Valley is a cold desert mountain valley located high in the Himalayas in the north-eastern part of the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The name "Spiti" means "The middle land", i.e. the land between Tibet and India. Spiti valley is a research and cultural centre for Buddhists. Highlights include Key Monastery and Tabo Monastery, one of the oldest monasteries in the world and a favourite of the Dalai Lama.

NEPAL

2018

Nepal is an independent country in Southern Asia, between the Tibet autonomous region of China and India. It contains 8 of the world's 10 highest peaks, including Mount Everest - the world's tallest - on the border with Tibet, and Lumbini, the birth place of Gautama Buddha, the founder of Buddhism.

LEH LADAKH

2016

Ladakh is one of the extreme climatic zones for human survival. Located on the northern most part of India, the region experiences sub-zero temperatures during winters. Despite such extreme conditions humans have continuously inhabited the region for centuries. The age old indigenous knowledge of building construction has enabled the native inhabitants to devise a highly efficient and climatically responsive vernacular architecture.

HIMACHAL

2015

Himachal Pradesh, is the extreme northern part of the Asian subcontinent. the ancient constructions in Himalayan regions are the finest examples of the traditional architecture, providing sufficient thermal comfort under extreme geo-climatic conditions of the region. These indigenous construction practices include the use of locally available materials such as wood, stone etc. One such native construction techniques, that has been practiced in the state of Himachal Pradesh is known as 'Kath-Khuni'

RAJASTHAN

2013

Rajasthan, meaning “The Abode of the Rajas,” was formerly called Rajputana, “The Country of the Rajputs”. The architecture of the Indian state of Rajasthan has usually been a regional variant of the style of Indian architecture prevailing in north India at the time. Rajasthan is especially notable for the forts and palaces of the many Rajput rulers, which are popular tourist attractions.
